Yadgaar-e- Shohda, Mung

The territory of Poonch came under the Rule of Sikhs in 1819 when they used the region as a platform for acquisition of Kashmir. The local Muslims Rulers were sidelined and Poonch were put under direct Sikh rule and remained under control of Gulab Singh ( 1821) Dhyan Singh( 1827) and Raja Heera Singh (the son and heir of Raja Dhyan Singh) who forced the masses to obey them.
During the reign of Heera Sing Suddhan tribes revolted against Sikhs and started freedom movement under the leadership of Sardar Ali Khan and Sabz Ali. To crush the Muslim rebellion Heera Singh killed most of the dignitaries of Suddhan tribes in 1832 and rest of them was arrested by Gulab Sing who skinned them alive and stuffed it with fodder and hanged on the trees at Mung (Shabnum Gull Research Associate Institute of Kashmir Studies University of AJK).
